I agree that there are less benefits to school uniforms from my point of view. According to http://www.eduguide.org/article/should-kids-wear-school-uniforms " school uniforms increase a students self-esteem because they do not have to participate in a student fashion show. Dressing alike reminds the children that what is important is on the inside." I do not necessarily agree with this because, students are already comfortable in the clothes they wear, what would make a uniform more comfortable. I think people would be more uncomfortable in clothes they don't like which would lower their self-esteem because they are self conscious in the uniform and then they won't be able to concentrate on what they are doing only the way they look and how they feel, they will not get more homework or better grades they may not even want to come to school because of the fact that they have to put on clothes they don't like AND drag themselves to school.

I agree with you that students want to learn but do not like the routine of homework, but it also has to be something they want to learn. According to http://www.edutopia.org/homework-no-proven-benefits " no study has ever demonstrated any educational benefit to assigning homework before children are in high school. Even in high school the association between homework and success is weak." Kids may want to learn but they have to having the willingness to put in the effort that it takes to learn, which would include all of the homework they don't want to do. A lot of students do not do homework because they don't see the point in it or just don't want to put in the effort that it takes to achieve success. With anything anyone does in life even in there jobs, there are going to be things they don't want to do, even if they think they have the best job in the world there will still be parts that they hate about it, whether it be paper work or physical activity. You can't always do just what you want or think is fun because that is not the way the world works.

I agree with you Hunter that you should not be the first one to hit, but why not try and stop the situation before it escalates that far. According to https://www.dosomething.org/facts/11-facts-about-bullying "Physical bullying increases in elementary, peaks in middle school, then declines in high school. Verbal abuse on the other hand remains the same." Most of the time bullying does not escalate to the point of physical violence, but most people can sense when that point is coming, so before getting hit or hitting someone why not just walk away. I do agree with you that if you do get hit you should not stand there and take it, but I don't see the point in sticking around to get called names and let the situation escalate the the point of violence.

I believe there should be tougher laws against texting and driving. According to http://www.distraction.gov/content/get-the-facts/facts-and-statistics.html an estimated 421,000 people were injured in motor vehicle accidents due to distracted drivers. I think this number could be decreased not by education but by tougher laws, because people will listen more to a law with a punishment behind it more than someone teaching them not to do something, if they have to pay a fine or serve jail time they will get the message that texting and driving is an unacceptable thing to do. Where as people get an education on not to drink and drive and are told that it kills people yet they go out and keep doing it. I know that alcohol is considered an addiction but texting and driving is just as dangerous as drinking and driving.

I don't believe that students should be labeled with uniforms, according to http://www.greatschools.org/find-a-school/defining-your-ideal/121-school-uniforms.gs, Uniforms violate a students right to freedom of expression, which is something I agree with because some students don't say much, but the clothes they are wearing express their personalities more than there words ever could. Besides the fact that uniforms don't let kids express themselves, it also has little impact on bullying, the same website also says that uniforms are simply a band-aid on the issue of school violence, I also agree with this, because no matter what a student is wearing there are always students that find anything to make fun of other students for whether it be their weight or complexion they still will get made fun of by someone.

There is also the issue of being comfortable. Some students may not be comfortable in there uniforms and may get to the point where they cannot focus on their schoolwork but only focus on how uncomfortable the clothes they are wearing are.

I like a lot of people believe that homework is needed but, I do not think it should be given in an overwhelming quantity. According to http://www.scholastic.com/teachers/article/homework-why-it-important, homework reinforces skills concepts and information learned in class which I think is true, but still if it is given in an overwhelming amount and is just busy work for a student who, keep in mind, will still get homework in other classes and possibly more important classes, but they still feel an obligation to get all of their homework done and then will be overwhelmed and go through the possibilities of not doing any of it or only doing what the student feels is important, than in which case you are setting the student up for failure.

There is also the fact that homework teaches a student to be independent and develops self-discipline. Which I believe to be true and it does teach responsibilty, but if the student finds the homework to be overwhelming or not worth doing they simply won't do it

I don't believe that school programs do enough to prevent or stop bullying because there are so many people that are bullied, and according to http://occupytheory.org/bullycide-statistics-and-stories, 1 out of every 4 students is bullied every month in the U.S. and 160,000 student don't show up for fear of being bullied. I believe this alone shows that school programs don't do enough to stop bullying. Not only do schools not do enough to stop bullying, they don't do enough to make students feel safe enough to come and talk to adults about what is happening, the reason I believe this is because 81% of bullying incidents are not reported to adults, which should really be the first step in trying to stop and prevent bullying.

I think that people need rights to choose books they are interested in, no matter what age. Most elementary school kids wouldn't go looking for a book about sex or violence unless they were turned on to it by something they heard or have seen, in which case they have already been exposed and would hopefully ask questions about what they are hearing or seeing, and then it is the parents or teachers responsibility to help them understand for the better about what they found out. I don't mean they should tell them more about the information they read, I mean they should reassure them that things like that do happen but they don't really need to be concerned about it. Either way, they are going to learn about it from someone or something they just need to know right from wrong.
